A: The growth of algae, lichen, & moss can cause many problems for your home’s exterior. Algae can promote rot & moss will hold moisture which breaks down the integrity of the shingles as well as other nearby surface materials.
Q: What is all that “ugly stuff” growing on my house and roof?
A: It is algae along with a combination of lichen, fungus, moss and more! In Green Country, if the grass and trees are growing well – so are all these unwanted destructive side effects of a humid climate. The more rain and moisture that we receive encourages anything living to grow and thrive – but not always where we want it to! According to the GAF Shingle Manufacturing website, “There’s no such thing as pretty roof algae. Gloeocapsa magma, also known as blue-green algae, has spread throughout more than 80% of the U.S., leaving dark black stains wherever it grows, and making millions of perfectly good roofs — and the homes they protect — look old before their time. Gloeocapsa magma is blue-green in color but surrounds itself with a dark brownish-black shell to protect against the sun’s rays. The dark shell causes the telltale streaking on the roof.”
Q: Are you insured?
A: Yes, we carry a one million dollar liability policy as well as commercial insurance for our vehicles. If you would like a certificate of insurance showing our policy to be current, please ask us and will be happy to provide it.
Q: What is the best method to use to clean my roof or my house?
A: Here in Green Country there are no definite industry standards or codes on how to get these tasks accomplished. Many things can actually be done by the homeowner – with the right equipment, chemicals, training and some trial & error.

Q: Do you use bleach?
A: Yes, when it is appropriate. Shingle manufacturers recommend a solution of water, surfactant, and bleach to be applied to the shingle surface and allowed to dwell long enough to kill the algae. It can then be gently rinsed away.
We at OKsoftwash follow that recommendation. It makes sense, if bleach is used in city drinking water systems, swimming pools and restaurant kitchens to kill bacteria and algae, why not utilize it for cleaning house exteriors and roofs?

A: Cleaning has been our lives for decades – it’s what we do. We focus on exterior cleaning only. It is not a side job for us or an add-on service. We don’t offer lawn mowing or painting for example. We live in Green Country, our parents & extended families live in this area. We are here to stay.

Q: Do we need to be home when the work is done?
A: No, all we need is access to a water faucet on the outside of your home and a single 110v electrical outlet. The rest is up to us. Of course, if you want to be there and help us – we would be glad to have you!
